SAVOIR-FAIRE

When you embark on the path of glassblowing, you commit to a craftsmen’s journey of continuous learning, filled with discoveries, challenges, and rewards. This learning, while deeply gratifying, requires a great deal of patience and perseverance. It is never instantaneous or easy, as it relies on the gradual mastery of the skills, techniques, and nuances specific to each craft. It is often a long and demanding process, but it is precisely this demand that allows the development of a unique and valuable SAVOIR-FAIRE (Craftsmanship).

It is only when this expertise or “savoir-faire” is acquired that originality can truly flourish, and the real joy of creating is revealed. While this does not mean that learning glass blowing is devoid of joy, the true pleasure and inspiration reflected in the final pieces comes from a deep mastery of the craft. Thanks to this mastery, each gesture becomes fluid, each idea takes form, and every creation carries the signature of the artisan’s soul and craftsmanship.

At La Soufflerie, we are fortunate to work with a team of passionate glassmakers, driven by the same love for their craft as we are. Together, over the years, we have shared knowledge, overcome obstacles, and honed our skills. It is within this collaborative and exchange-driven environment that we bring our latest collection to life. Each piece is the result of a perfect harmony between acquired expertise, passion for glass, and unleashed creativity. We have taken immense pleasure in designing these pieces, and that joy is evident in every detail.

The fluid forms, the subtle movements of the glass, and the complexity of the designs all stand as testaments to this mindset. Each creation reflects not only the dedication and excellence of our team but also the unique bond between the artisan and their material. We are convinced that it is this alchemy that makes our mouth-blown pieces so special.

We would like to express our gratitude to our entire glassblowing team, without whom this collection would never have come to life. We hope you will feel as much pleasure in admiring and using these pieces as we did in creating them. Each object tells a story – one of Savoir-Faire, craftsmanship, passion, and a deep commitment to the art of glassblowing.

Candle care

Before lighting your candle, trim the wick to about 1/2-cm in length. This allows the candle to burn more slowly and also avoid unsightly black smoke marks around the edge of the glass.

Every time you burn your La Soufflerie candle, allow it to burn at least until the whole top of the candle is liquid. This will help your candle burn more evenly for each burning session.

After blowing out your candle, re-center and straighten the wick.
When using your candlestick holder, do not let the flame touch the glass. Blow the candle out once it gets close to the candle stick holder. Do not place your candle on a cool surface like marble. If the bottom of the hot candle comes in contact with a cold material, the glass may crack.

Do not burn your candle all the way down. Leave at least 1/2-cm of wax in the container to avoid cracking the bottom.Once you have finished burning your candle, hand wash with warm water and soap until the dried wax melts away. You now have a new La Soufflerie piece to use!

Cleaning care

All plaster and terracotta pieces are not suitable for use with water. You can dust each piece with a dry cloth.

General information

These are entirely made by hand and each creation is unique. Therefore, there may be a slight variation in color, texture, and size between each piece (approximately 1cm-2cm from piece to piece). On the base of each item, you can feel the pontil mark left by the glassblower’s cane. The presence of this mark indicates that the glass was blown freehand. This is the beauty of handmade.

Cleaning care

We do recommend handwashing as much as possible to avoid scratches from the dishwasher and to keep the glass sparkling. But, know that our glassware is dishwasher resistant and can be cleaned in the dishwasher

Colored glass

Pigmented glass is mixed into the furnace during the glassblowing. This means that the glass itself is colored instead of painted. Our glass is durable and no changes or fading occur with continued use over time.
